The Alabama Association for Food Protection (AAFP), an affiliate of the International Association for Food Protection, is a non-profit organization comprised of over 100 food safety professionals spanning Industry, Government, and Academia throughout the state of Alabama.

G.M. Gallaspy Food Safety Scholarship winner
Derrick English, from Alabama A&M University (AAMU), has been chosen as the 2019 Alabama Association for Food Protection GM Gallaspy Food Safety Scholarship winner. He wants to focus on food safety and nutrition. He states, “I remember being a young teenager wanting to follow in the footsteps of my older cousin, who is a food investigator for the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) - - I’m motivated to help people live a good quality, healthy life through the production of safe food that they consume on a daily basis.” He is extremely involved in the IFT College Bowl, serves on the AAMU Food Science Club Executive Board, and MANRRS Executive Board, all awhile maintaining a high GPA, “Being a part of these organizations has strongly increased my passion for Food Science.” We would like to congratulate Derrick on his achievements and wish him a happy and prosperous career.
